Organization Information
Women of Africa Resource and Development Association (WARDA) – Is a grass roots non-profit organization formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2001 by a group of predominantly immigrant women. Their aim is to service refugee and immigrant women and youth, mainly from Somalia and East Africa. We see the many problems they face: isolation, depression, poverty, and barriers at every turn that perpetuate these conditions. We also know that in most cases there are resources available to provide the kinds of support the women and girls need.
WARDA has been amazingly successful at providing programs for women and girls living in Twin Cities, particularly Riverside Plaza based totally on volunteer effort and services contributed by community organizations such as the YMCA, the Children’s Theater, University of Minnesota, Augsburg College, and Health Partners among others. |
